Choose how photos appear

  • Behind the calendar: edit a ready-made layout, open Background and choose My own photos (slideshow). Your calendar stays visible while the photos change.
  • Beside the calendar: in a custom layout, add a Photos block. Choose My own photos (slideshow) as its source, then place it beside the calendar.
  • A separate photo frame: from Layouts, add the Digital Photo Frame layout. Change its background to My own photos (slideshow). This layout starts with full-screen photos and a small clock.

You can keep more than one layout on a display and set when each appears. That lets you choose a calendar for the morning and photos later, instead of rebuilding the layout every day.

Add your family photos

  1. Make your home on your phone or computer, then open a layout for editing.
  2. Use Photos in the editor toolbar and choose Add photos. You can give the photos an album name such as Family or Holidays.
  3. In the background or Photos block, choose My own photos (slideshow) and select that album. You can also choose all your photos.
  4. Keep the device online while the photos upload. Preview the layout, then check it on the paired tablet.

Homeboard resizes uploads for a tablet screen. Plus keeps up to 300 photos for your home. You can remove old ones in the Photos window to make room for another album.

Use pictures you are happy to have visible to everyone who sees the tablet. You can start with a small album and add more once you like how it looks.

Keep the calendar readable

Busy or bright photos can make appointments harder to read. In a ready-made layout's Background settings, lower Brightness. For a custom layout's background, use Darken photos. You can also keep photos in a separate block beside the calendar. Preview several different pictures rather than choosing a layout that only suits one.

For the Photos block, choose whether pictures fill the space or fit entirely inside it. If a face is being cropped, try fitting the whole picture or change the part to keep. Choose a slower change interval if frequent changes distract people.

Easy to read makes text larger, increases contrast and holds photos still. Pause movement on the wall also stops the slideshow. Night mode dims the display at bedtime; it adds a dark layer and does not change the tablet's own backlight.

Show it on the tablet

On your phone, open Displays and choose Put it on the tablet. Follow the iPad instructions or the Android and Fire instructions to enter the pairing code and keep Homeboard easy to reopen.

The calendar reads links from iCloud, Google, Outlook and other calendar services. Continue adding appointments in your usual calendar app. How to get your calendar links.

If a photo does not appear

  • Check the source and album: uploading a picture does not switch an existing background to your photos. Choose My own photos (slideshow) and the album you added it to.
  • Check the upload message: if Homeboard says uploads are waiting, new photos stay on the device you added them from until they can upload. Keep it online and let the upload finish.
  • Check the file: if a photo cannot be opened or converted, export a JPEG copy and try adding that.
  • Check your plan: your own photos need Plus. Free picture themes remain available after a trial ends.
